Sam Petsonk, Democratic candidate for Attorney General in West Virginia, issued the following statement today: “We cannot afford to eliminate guaranteed coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, to repeal Medicaid expansion, and to strike the Byrd Amendments to the federal black lung program that secured lifetime benefits for thousands of disabled coal miners and their widows. By repealing Medicaid expansion, the lawsuit supported by Patrick Morrisey also attacks the most important resources for addiction treatment and recovery services. Losing those Medicaid-backed services would set us back years in the fight against the opioid crisis.” "Let's put West Virginia on the right side of history. We must elect an Attorney General with a record of protecting healthcare benefits---as I have done in scores of cases---instead of attacking them. We have suffered from having a rogue Attorney General taking West Virginia down these harmful paths. We need an Attorney General with my values and experience---one who will join the coalition of 20 Democratic AGs fighting in court to save health care for millions of Americans. Those allies are challenging 17 Republican AGs (and one GOP governor) who want to gut critical care for families and communities everywhere."
"As Attorney General, I would withdraw West Virginia’s support for this lawsuit that threatens so many of us, and put the State's resources towards protecting the rights and benefits for our people to improve access to quality, affordable healthcare."
